FESTIVAL FUN IN MITCHELDEAN
It’s almost time for the annual Mitcheldean Festival from 14th – 16th July!
This free-to-attend Festival will see a wide range of events, including concerts, village fete, community dance, a comedy evening, the Poetry Festival and much more with Morris dancing and busking around the village on the Saturday.
Events begin on Friday evening, with an acoustic concert in Mitcheldean Church, featuring The Kindreds (7.00), Tracey & the Swannacks (7.20), Jethro Forester (7.40), Unearthed (7.50), Eden Tanner (8.10), Keith Hyett (8.20), Terry Gibson & Tony Morris (8.40), Kings Shilling (9.00), The Hired Guns (9.20) and closing with a special performance from the Drybrook Male Voice Choir (9.40) which will include a tribute to the late Dick Brice. Singers and musicians will also be able to enjoy an open music session in The Lamb starting at 8.00pm.
Saturday sees the Poetry Festival with 18 young poets and storytellers receiving their competition awards in the parish church at midday, and a poetry recital by established local poets at the Jolter Press from 4pm. The village fete will take place on the village playing field (12 – 4pm) and will feature music, dancing, bouncy castle, stalls, refreshments and a dog show with six categories to enter, from most handsome dog to the dog the judges would like to take home!
At 4pm, the Showcase Concert commences in Mitcheldean Church with ten acts: Ann and Dave Reader (4.00), The Blessed Crow (4.30), Mitchell and Appleyard (5.00), Telmornaey (5.30), Zenoibiasounds (6.00), Kan Koth (6.30), Luke Philbrick and The Solid Gone Skiffle Invasion (7.00), Dragons Breath (7.30), Town Musicians of Bremen (8.00) and The Onika Venus Band (8.30). Finally on Saturday, a Barn Dance will commence at 7.30pm in Mitcheldean Community Centre, followed by an acoustic music session.
Sunday sees the regular Folk Walk leaving The White Horse at midday, where an acoustic music session will be held between 2.30 and 6pm. The Festival will conclude with an afternoon of comedy at The Jolter Press, starting at 3.30pm.
