Lumberjills played a key role in WW2 replacing men in forestry work. FoD was at the heart of this work, with the training centre in Parkend in what is now the Dean Field Studies Centre.
Joanna Foat visited here, and elsewhere, to research the lumberjills and interview over 60 women for her non fiction book on the topic. She subsequently released a novel, set in the Forest.
Dean Writers Circle is delighted to have Jo as our guest speaker on 31 May ‘Women in the Forest’ event to talk about her books and her research.
£5 on the door. Come along!
