Today has worn me out: I’m off to bed
To rest my aching bones and blistered feet;
But I can’t sleep for thoughts within my head
Employ my mind, despite me feeling beat.
For when I lie awake my mind will drift
To thoughts of you that fade and then resume;
And when my drooping eyelids start to lift,
I stare into the blackness of the room.
Then my imagination paints a sight,
Recalling joyous silhouettes of you.
Just like an apparition in the night
That makes the darkness magically
anew.
